First off, consider this very incomplete, even by current-info standards :p. With PAX so near, I figured that the extra time I could spend probably wouldn’t really be worth it; although it would have been cool to have done more ‘mapping’ just with what we have to go on. :p

I’m fairly confident on the placement of everything here, from watching videos, and also figuring out that these things on the map are the big ‘baobab-like’ trees that dot the zone. It helped me with bearing and orientation in several screenshots.
    [IMG] [IMG]

    Two things you’ll need:

First, the default, un-edited map (so you can see some of the visual cues that helped me place things)
    http://i.imgur.com/Ws4JCZ7.jpg

Second, the same map with numerical annotation!

    1) BloodfireVillage
    2) Metal Maw
    3) Gorganoth Lair
    EXPLORER PATH: The Lost Caverns
    4) Aurin Camp
    5) Eldan Terraformer
    6) Spearclaw Post
    7) Explosive Mammodin Quest area
    8) Deadwind Hollow (Moodie Camp)
    9) ‘Gremlin’ Outpost (4th Dominion Race)
    10) Jagged Rock Mine
    11) Terminite Nests
    12) Tar Pits
    13) ‘Ghost’ Area
    14) Falkrin Camp
    15) Marauder Landing
    16) Second ‘Gremlin’ Outpost
    The Ungala

    1) Bloodfire Village
    [IMG]
It’s Bloodfire Village! Not much more needs to be said. :p

A point of interest here is the Bloodfire Clanhall where the Clanlord of the Bloodfire clan – Makaza – presides.

    2) Metal Maw
    [IMG]

The giant cage where Metal Maw spawns (far right of screenshot). I thought that shot gave a good overview of the area where we’ll be fighting it

Very nearby (visible in foreground) is a big tree that explorers can climb. Inbetween it and the Gorganoth Lair (see 3) is an entrance to the Lost Caverns - an underground passageway accessible by Explorers. The Lost Caverns takes the player to a cliff overlooking Jagged Rock Mine (see 10).

    3) Gorganoth Lair
    [IMG]
Screenshot 1: the Gorganoth Lair visible just over the edge of the cliff. The glowy rocks indicate the Explorer’s entrance to the Lost Cavern.

Screenshot 2: Another shot of the Lair, along with a couple cronies across the river.

    EXPLORER PATH: The Lost Caverns
    [IMG]
Takes you from an entrance inbetween Metal Maw and the Gorganoth Lair to a cliff overlooking Jagged Rock Mine.

Notice the green Granok/Exile ship. You'll see it again when we get to the Jagged Rock Mine proper (see #10)

    4) Aurin Camp
    [IMG]
This camp seems to be populated by ‘Shadeleaf’ Aurin. Could be the name of a clan, a tribe, or something else.

    5) Eldan Terraformer
    [IMG]
An Eldan Terraformer. I also included a screenshot of what I believe is the view from inside the terraformed area. Note what appears to be the Deradune sky/clouds.

    6) Spearclaw Post
    [IMG]
This is where you get the Exploding Mammodin quest from Engineer Giba.

    7) Explosive Mammodin Quest area
    [IMG]
I just thought it’d be interesting to show you guys the relative size of this area.
(Also note that both Spearclaw Post and Bloodfire Village are visible in the background of the first screenie)

Creating a second post due to image number restriction. :p

    8) Deadwind Hollow (Moodie Camp)
There’s a Soldier ‘Holdout’ mission here which culiminates in the arrival of a miniboss: the Undead Gorganoth

    9) ‘Gremlin’ Outpost (4th Dominion Race)
(Far right in the third screenshot)

    10) Jagged Rock Mine
    [IMG]
An Exile mining operation which seems to be carried out exclusively by Granok. Taking the ‘Lost Cavern’ Explorer passageway from the entrance near Metal Maw takes you here. There’s a Soldier Holdout mission called ‘Mercenary Madness’, as well as a couple Assassination missions.

    11) Terminite Nests
    [IMG]
I surmise that this area is the Terminite area seen in this screenshot. Terminites seem to spread purple goo around their nests, which would account for that particular colouration on the world map. Also, it’s north of a ‘Gremlin’ base.

    12) Tar Pits
    [IMG]

    13) ‘Ghost’ Area
    [IMG]
Moodies in this area seem to be raising specters of various creatures, including Draken. It overlooks the Tar Pits.

    14) Falkrin Camp
    [IMG]
    Trivia time:
Despite the recent Wildstar Wednesday article on Deradune saying that the Falkrin’s origins are ‘shrouded in mystery’, we actually know that they were created by the Eldan:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtK-8sUazUs&t=23m11s

    15) Marauder Landing
    [IMG]
Besides the obvious pink which is in itself not a guarantee, the fact that there’s huge skeletal remains as well as a ‘baobab’ tree north of the landing seems to line up with what’s seen in the screenshot.

    16) Second ‘Gremlin’ Outpost
    [IMG]
There’s also a second ‘Gremlin’ outpost south of the Eldan Terraformer. You can glimpse it on the far right of the this first screenshot.

The second screenshot is, I believe, a differently-angled shot of the same outpost. Note that the ‘Gremlins’ here are also experimenting on Razortails instead of just the Mammodin.

You can see some of the terraformed terrain and Terraformer energy beam thingy in the background.

    The Ungala
I believe that this is the name of the river that runs across the zone. You glimpse it for a while in the Gamespot vid when the player enters the water briefly. :p

    Enemies [very incomplete]:
    Whitepaw Slasher
    Whitepaw Pouncer
    Gnarlfoot Pest (lvl 6)
    Gnarlfoot Screecher (lvl 6)
    Gnarlfoot Razortail (lvl 6)
    Razorfoot Slasher
    Ungala Shocker

    Shadeleaf Mystic (Aurin)

    Savannah Gunner (Marauder) (lvl 6)
    Savannah Poacher (Marauder) (lvl 6)
    Savannah Sharpshooter (Marauder) (lvl 6)

    Moodie Protector (lvl 7)
    Moodie Mystic (lvl 7)
    Deadwind Maniac (lvl 7)
    Undead Gorganoth (miniboss)

    Airdropped Malverine (lvl 7)
    Airdropped Girrok (lvl 7)
    Airdropped Ravenok (lvl 7)

    Jagged Rock Mercenary (Granok)

    Exile Patrolship (lvl 8)

    Neutral:
    Coarsehair Wanderer
    Coarsehair Bellower
    Swifthart Grazer (lvl 6)
    Zomclaw Buzzard

    Bonus:
    http://i.imgur.com/l4ssKoQ.png
    http://i.imgur.com/s67UpIa.png

These two guys look different from others of their kind. I’m guessing they’re named elites/rares.

If I were going to PAX, I’d do a comparison first hand, but at the very least, this’d give some of you PAX-goers some lulz while you’re playing through Deradune. ^_____^

Somehow the art of these 'Gremlin' settlements doesn't scream Dominion to me.

That's probably why the Dominion doesn't want to talk about them. The Dominion have an image to protect, having a non scary semi-cute race is not really something they would want to acknowledge.

Maybe. But then I don't see why the Dominion puts up with them in the first place. They must have rather special powers. Like the Draken were chosen from hundreds of civilizations. What do these little buggers have that suits the Dominion? Can't wait to hear more about them.

    Wow, thanks EVERYONE! :)

I'm very happy that this was still entertaining or informative even for someone who's been to Arkship and played through the zone already!

It'd be a lot harder since we don't have as clear a map as we do for Deradune, but I'd be willing to give it a shot assuming someone else doesn't do it first. :p Would be some time after PAX though, I'd imagine. :p

    Speaking of PAX, ICANTWAITTOSEEEVERYTHINGTHEYREGONNASHOW.

Also, that youtube link you posted is pretty spot-on with how they might be! :roflamo:

Well we have an image of a little Gremlin fellow inside it:
    poi07.png

But also, in the Props Team video, one of the artists say:
"We've got this race that we haven't announced yet. And everything they make is just slapped together."
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul4qcdpeRZ8&t=01m29s

This is in-line with what we see in these structures in Deradune. ^_^

What would this race contribute to the Dominion? MAD SCIENCE! Their stuff may not be as slick as the Mechari, but it seems to get the job done. I mean, mind-controlled exploding mammodin, srsly. @_@

They're also buddies with the Draken, since they airdrop exotic creatures for them to kill, giving Deradune a wider variety of wildlife than it otherwise might have. :p

It's my belief there is a very good reason for their involvement.

I think the Mechari realized at some point in time they needed help with their own maintenance. Perhaps it was insurance of a sort as well, or perhaps they just admire a race as ingenious as the little guys, but suffice it to say, I really think their place in the Dominion was "chosen" by the Mechari's needs and design.

Besides, the Dominion are clearly not above placing certain races in the forefront of their order when it comes to specialities. They were even willing to give the uncouth Granok a place of honor, until the smashing. ;)
