I like racy and I like elegance, combine both and you'll have me hooked ^.^
I think that's the key! Options!
My Charr knows how to dress pretty without looking like a tramp!
Yet humans in GW2 look like hookers...
Nah I reckon my Guardian looks pretty BAMF. Here she is just chillin' with that Drake mother thing.
(Nice Charr, though ^____^)
im not that into this sexy armors but i dont mind them as long as they dont overkill it and with overkill i mean armor which is basically iron/steel underwear
That one? It was pretty fun armor set, because those tubes at a back were actually thrusters. That set had unique animation tied to BH class.
Did someone say, "male's fuzzy chest" ? /erection. On a real note I also agree, no scarlet blade things in this game please, BUT they know what they are doing when they show the aurins and say "some people are into that" so...they know who they are catering guys they aren't noobs ^^.
I think a perfect blend of elegance with the option to be racy, as Immaculata said above.
From what Ive seen of female characters so far, I don't think the armour goes down the usual road of being skimpy. I mean look at the pic of Poptart the first beta tester as per Gaffer's post. Perfect outfit!
Options is the big keyword here. Give us sexy and functional armors for both genders, allow us to change it if we want to and presto, happy fanbase. GW2 did this right with their transmutation stones and I think Wildstar could cash in on this as well. Any MMO market would be foolish only to cater to one type of person.
And honestly from what I've seen, unless they are bland soft-core porn WoW rip-offs, we can be pretty sure we'll get these options.
I've noticed that in many, many, many MMORPG's, and other genres where female armor just doesn't seem viable. A fully clothed, or armored character can still look amazing. Showing skin isn't bad, but it ridiculous when, as stated in this thread, they look like Hookers from Amsterdam's Red Light District.
Without getting into the specifics of any systems, I can tell you that you will be able to choose how you look regardless of the gear you pick.
So a costume system then eh? *Wink wink nudge nudge* I see what you're sayin', but let's not tell the others shall we?
It's sad and promising at the same time. Depends on specifics.
As has been stated in this thread a couple of times already it's all about options.
There is nothing wrong with sexy armor designs (for either sex) as long as they are not compulsory. What defines sexy or sexualized armor? Well that is a giant grey area full of monsters, opinions, and all kinds of dangerous tangents. One armor design may be seen as harmless by one person, and grossly offensive by another. You'd have to weigh in on things like cultural norms, general morality, social trends, arguments over historical references, the weight of fantasy settings etc... It's just one big mess.
The best way to avoid this mess is to give players options and get some thick skin on the topic. Again Wildstar could let you run around naked with Saints Row style pixel filters for all I care as long as it is not compulsory. Options are cool, options allow for expression (both good and bad) and generally make games better. Lack of options such as enforcing a strict functional armor design rule, or not allowing female characters to ever show cleavage ever is not such a good solution.
Carbine already seems to have this issue solved with the cosmetic item slots and the armor that I personally have seen in videos and images all seems pretty reasonable, and more importantly AWESOME.
As an added benefit: surely it would be more satisfying for the gear artists to develop for female tastes than male?
I think that generally speaking they'd get more appreciation for their work from the former than the latter.
I'm going to agree with you on this one... The armor should look the same in males or females, it should just be fitted to their body. I've been in far to many games that follow the rule "The more protection it offers, the less it covers!". Plate bikinis really make no sense :S
It's to protect the pointy thingies.
That's actually very close. I reinstalled the game since I posted that so I put on my old healing gear and snapped a ss. We both are using the tionese model gloves and boots
I almost always hide helm cause I like seeing my characters face. I showed the helm here cause I thought it matched the set pretty well. I was pretty proud of my gear and super excited that they have a unify colors option. If only they let you unify colors in the paper doll.
