The Elder Scrolls has been around since 1992 - over 20 years! TESO also had a massive advertising campaign just to sign up for the beta - and get all of those likes on Facebook. In other words, they paid for those likes.

I'm convinced that the worst thing that can happen to a game is for it to be over-hyped. That is the exact path TESO is on.

But the bottom line, no amount of hype or marketing can make a game succeed in the way that WoW succeeded. That was solely because of quality and word of mouth. In my opinion WildStar is in much better position to have that happen than TESO is.

The number of people involved now vs. the number of people playing these games a year after their release aren't really connected in any way.

This is encouraging. Now that you mention it, the way that I learned about vanilla wow was seeing my roommate playing in college. Never once saw a commercial or Internet ad. Thanks for the perspective!

I feel the same! The trailer at Youtube has less than 20.000 views. But i think they will promote more the game at beta!Hopefully we will have some good feedback there and we can have and awesome game:)
But having lets say a player base of 2.000k at launch its ok with me.I fear those WoW people that will come screaming.Wow is better.WoW clone and staff like that! They past years ruined many games before they even launched with that attitude

Wildstar is on an immediate path to be overhyped by myself, to myself, and I don't even care. I'm going to forgo any standard reservations and caution and just say this game is going to be insanely awesome.

Just seeing what they've done with a housing system makes me not even fathom how amazing they can make the rest of the game. Showing the video to my wife I thought her jaw was going to drop off at how involved it is.

I hope they have a significant CE along with preorder name reservations because I know what our house is getting fro Christmas this year. :roflamo:

As you say, IP's sells, which is why they went with elder scrolls online instead of creating a new IP like Wildstar. Also, ESO didn't really have much hype until february when they went crazy with promotions so hypes build up quickly.

There is still E3 and Pax prime to go before this game hits the shelves anyway, going into crazy hype mode six months before release just feels like wasted time, effort and money. What I hear now is enough to keep me interested.

The problem is when people from any game come and demand for features to be the same or completely the opposite of their favorite game, then flip flop their stance when it's implemented. It happens every game and is very dangerous.

Carbine seem to already have thought of practically everything, which is unfathomable to me, but I'm hoping that it helps nip that kind of feedback in the bud.

You want the first post to be 2 pages long? :p But keep up the good work finding the links, John. You are the one that keeps me away from all the other games I can play :D

I suspect this dude is talking nonsense, I haven't seen a mention of the payment model for either game anywhere else and while I get the sci-fi torchlight look he compares the controls of the two when they are completely different genres.

People like this, stating things that are possible NOT true can make so many people leave from following the game in assumption that it will cost 15 bucks. I mean mayby it's 5 or mayby it's B2P.
Unless he can shows some confirmed post about it, he's talking rubbish.
