    • Rivals List
      • Rivals may be added from either faction.
      • Anyone on your Rivals List can be marked in the open world with a unique visual representation. Use this to track down nemeses of the opposite faction, or duel with one of your favorite friends!
Hello, this is just a short thread to keep things alive abit on the forum tbh.
As i was reading the latest news/patch of wildstar i saw that they added the Rival list.
I rlly like this feature and wonderd who was gonna add who to it (in other words, does anyone has rivals on their mind yet?)
    For me?
I think im gonna put some Errant Unit scum on it ( :sneaky:*Extatica* :sneaky:)

I think its a cool feature, its a very short step away from a bounty system which is a truly awesome feature and something that would add another layer to everything in the game if done correctly - when you start doing stuff like this, you get into cool things like people specialising in finding these bounties, the people who are good at killing the bounties, the people who are good at protecting the bounties.

Its still themepark but stuff like that really makes a difference to a lot of people.

Should be fun. I know that in EQ2 I frequently wanted to hunt down players who ambushed me when I was damaged from fighting mobs. Payback is the essence of PvP after all....lol (at least sometimes).

lets just hope that marking the rival wont make him too obvious to know where he is

i hope its just a little star next to his name, so you can recognize him when you see each others

Hopefully the system isn't used to harass others. It's I neat idea. I just can see bad stuff happening

Personally, I can see it being used massively on the pvp servers. Getting focused in a bg, rival that guy, hop into open world, get group...roll out roaming. From the language though, I don't think it will let you see where your rivals are in the world map but must be within sight. It will be awesome to rock it out in pvp zones to help try and avoid gankers/greifers.

It's a simple and awesome feature that I wish was in more games. It adds a lot to world PvP especially during the leveling process. Get ganked by a high level? Tag them as a rival so you know who to get revenge on when you get higher. It's a cool thing.

I just hope that when someone marks me as a rival I get a mark for them on my own list .... So that I know where all the people hunting me are.... Later later I can just remove the people that are not worth my timeand those that even when they attack they don't last long ... A sign of power :)

Definitely a tool for griefing and I bet this will be removed the first patch after live if it even makes it live, which is unfortunate because its a really cool feature.

I love the idea of some little low level noob getting ganked...and then craftily beginning to form a plan for revenge, growing bigger and stronger to eventually get to the point where he can seek his vengeance..

It can be used as a tool for griefing.. but you could say that a lot of things are tools for griefing. Like mounts. Griefing is part of playing on a PvP server, and anyone who willingly roles on one understands that

I see this being a great tool. I am going to have a blast with it.

I don't see it being that big of an issue. If someone is griefing, I don't see this tool making it much easier for them to do. That is, of course, if it is simply a little visual queue(like the aforementioned star by their name). If it shows you on the map where they are, that would be ridiculous. But I doubt that will be the case.
In either case, if it becomes an issue, there are plenty of other options they could come with instead of just removing it entirely. For example, they could make it so that the visual queue disappears for X minutes after killing the target.

Or they could make it so you can't rival someone whose difference in level compared to yours is greater than some number. Would prevent high levels from being able to use it as a lowbie tracker for ganking purposes.

There is a similar wow addon ( shocker I know ), this addon works per "zone" and alerts you if the player comes within range of you, and I believe will target the player when the alert sounds.
Now of course we dont know if the WS one works the same way, but this one also has a function that can alert you if you are in a party or raid. The example given was that a party or raid could spread out in the zone and if that "rival" was in range of any one of them, then you would get an alert.

I am all for it, and I personally don't have a problem with griefing as I feel it should be a player-regulated thing not a developer responsibility to try and remove it all. But I feel I am an old school gamer in the minority, and most gamers today don't like the idea of something ever happening to them against their will.

That may be true, but then they really have no business on a PvP server to begin with :p

I'm of the same mind. It's pretty cool in theory and I know I wouldn't abuse it, but the possibility is there.

I really can't imagine that it shows that player on the map. As mentioned that would be absurd and yes would enable alot of griefing. It should not work like that. I don't even think it should notify you.

It should only affect that players nameplate. Maybe make it appear yellow or something that would stand out sufficiently in a crowd. It will be nice to be out and about and then there on the horizon you see a yellow name and then you know you have to quit whatever you're doing to go drop that Exile sucka :ninja:

Contrary to other people's worries, I think the rival system may actually HELP PREVENT camping and griefing.

If you think about it, people cause grief because they know that they can get away with it without retaliation. The last thing a griefer or camper wants is knowing that someday, somehow karma is going to bite them in the @$$. A rival list would ensure you would have a chance to give them what they deserve.

Hell, i was even faster with this feature then Carbine did anyway (check my siggy for the names).

So i'm totally pleased that i can add my ''head-hunt list'' to an in-game version

Also if the marking happens ''just before the person comes in line of sight'' then i don't see how this would ''add'' alot more griefing to it. Those extra 5 yards that it marks someone before you would normally see them anyway.
