Okay, so in the video below, I heard an iteration on one of the most terrible things to blight the earth since the invention of algebra: ESCORT MISSIONS. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

In case someone's wondering, it's the "Rescue Op" bit.

On another note, I hope assassination missions actually feel like assassination missions and not "go to X and kill Y/number of Ys"

I see nothing that indicated the rescue op would involve escorting. You may just have to go to a place where someone is held and kill everything around them and they can go on their merry way.

Maybe after they can just jump on your back and you can hack and slash out at your own pace and avoid the terrible escort quest pace they usually have if we do have to actually escort.

Note the line "Keeping the civilians safe..." at about 38secs. I just hope that it's really that, you go to this place, cut them loose and that's it. You don't have to protect their miserable ass the way back. Nobody likes doing that.

What I found interesting in that video was when they talked about "conquer" missions and then a doo-dad fell from the sky [apparently] and the public event started. Did the player choose that spot? 'Cause I can picture a scenario unfolding where I find a group of players just chilling somewhere in the world and I drop a Conquer Mission Beacon in the middle of 'em and just sit back and watch them be attacked.

Yeah, I hate escort missions. Either the NPC walks slower than your grandmother, or they run like the wind while you're busy killing the mobs and you fail the mission because they got out of range. Give me a shrink gun so I can shrink the NPC and put it in my pocket, then I might consider you're silly request of escorting your grandmother through a desert full of homicidal pirates and smugglers.

Is this more fun now? and they trash talk while on the move? getting funner? Each one hooks you up with gear/gold or housing items for helping them on their way... MORE PLEASE! half way there ya'll get picked up by hovercraft...vehicle battles anyone. time for a fun escort mission!

I'm fairly certain IF they chose to have escort missions, they were able to make some sort of twist around it to make it more interesting. In one of the gameplay videos I watched a few days ago they even mentioned that they had a guy working seperately on these quests where you drop a beacon and you have to protect it. I think that shows that they are pretty serious about having some diversity in quests of any kind.

Best part is when the young bloke walks like your grandmother and the old lady runs like she's in the olympic team for the 100m sprint :cautious:

If there are long and boring escort missions, then i think the holdout missions will make up for it. Why? because a lot of the videos i have seen envolving holdout missions often at the end of the mission you get to fight a big, possibly unique? boss, which i think is awesome and is whats making me sway towards choosing the soldier path.

I'm actually quite concerned regarding the holdout missions. I'm planning to roll a stalker, a class with a stealth-based approach, hiding, then wailing on a target for terrible, terrible damage, not really a class built for prolonged combat. So how can that be used for something with waves of enemies coming at you at intervals?

I don't know how they'll actually build the Stalker's skillset but going by the standard rogue fare, they're a class that usually focuses on terrible, terrible damage on one target, handling 3, 5, or 10 at a time multiple times might be a little difficult.

Oh no.... ok, I'm not sure how much info you have found on Stalkers but let me help you out as someone who LOVES rogue class and loves how they are making Stalkers :)

Stalkers will do great DPS, as well as stuns and extra damage from behind. The stealth is just icing in the cake to start combat with major advantage.

If you have read the Leaked and now Open availible patch notes you will see that Most all skills the stalker has have been converted to MULTIPLE targets including stuns. The damage is NOT horrible from the videos I have watched and with the combat system the way it is you do not have to stand around and take every hit constantly.

And finally, check this out...... They are ALSO a Tank class if you chose to be. Mentioned multiple times they have enhanced shields/armor nanobots for protection. Which means as a TANK class they are Designed to take on MULTIPLE mobs at the same time and take much less damage than the other classes.

So in a nutshell you have High DMG, Tanking ability, Mobility, Stuns, (maybe even small self heals/shield regen abilities. Do not know but if you watch video's you can see their HP go up a little bit at a time during combat). I for one LOVE stealth classes and to have one that can actually take a beating is very nice stuff :)

So don't worry my friend, I do NOT think you will be upset at the outcome of the Stalker class when you finally get to play one :)

And for PvP, stealth classes have always been feared when played by someone who knows what they are doing.

Wow, you're post just screams "NERF ME! I'M OP!" Lol.

But really, I was just concerned about how they'd balance that out since Rogues are usually single target nukers by my experience. Although my msot recent Rogue is the GW2 thief with a backstab dual dagger build, so that could be a factor in my worry.

haha thats funny :) nah im sure I could come up with very nice tactical summary of every class. I'm a PvPer so I always play every class to find out "how they tick" so I can stop them from Ticking easier.

I totally understand your concern!! but in GW2 the Thief class ( which I played ) you had some critical choices to make if you want survival. You already know is "Bow Time" haha if you face multiple mobs. dagger dagger stab stab can get you killed quite easily without massive amounts of practice dodging. I do not think this game will resemble that at all. I think as the Stalker class we will be able to pick and chose our abilities with better ease for each situation. and so we are not OP, that goes for all classes :p

    Bow Time is EVERYtime.

Well, almost... Really though, the only times I went dagger is during boss fights. That's one of the things I really hated about GW2, more than half the time the game forces you out into a situation where your build is worthless. I hope that doesn't happen here what with their emphasis on "play how you want".

On topic, I sure as hell hope assassinations aren't "Go here and kill this mob" or "Kill X number of mobs". I want to FEEL like I'm an ASSASSIN.

If I remember correctly they said that Soldiers would be able to start random world events/big world battles. So there would be your conquer event right there. for the life of me though I don't remember where I saw that, but I definitely know it was in a vid.

I don't think the Rescue Op will be just a regular escort mission; aint nobody got time for that. By regular escort mission, I'm talking about the scenario where the NPC slowly walks from point A to point B seeming to not worry about the dangers we would be protecting them from. I'm imagining that the Rescue Op will have them running along with us and helping us fight as move them to safety.

What would be really cool is that as we are escorting them that they NPC would become a like a pet and we would be given some abilities to use during the mission. Maybe the ability to have the NPC cc a mob, cast a HoT while we are fighting, or possibly an AoE slowing effect to help get us out of a jam. Hopefully it will be faster paced and more interactive than just having them walk from the beginning to the end while we kill things.

I wouldn't mind the escort quest if the logic was better in them. Most scenarios play out as follows:

Person in need of rescue (referred to going forward as "idiot): "HELP ME! HELP ME! I've been abducted by (insert baddie here) and I haven't seen my children in 4 months and fear that they believe me to be dead and are dividing up my priceless collection of antique erotic pottery!"

Poor Sucker (referred to going forward as "the player"): I'll help you! Let's get you out of this cage, now all you need to do is go in a straight line from here to the exit and that road right over there that we can see from here ok? Now I've already cleared out all of the monsters in here so you shouldn't have trouble ok?"

<The player releases the idiot back into the wild>

Idiot: "Oh thank you so much for releasing me, I was so ready to get out of there, I'm so scared for my life! Now I will walk as slowly as humanly possible in this dangerous area because I want to make sure that we have the highest opportunity for people to see us and attack as possible. When we make it to the safety of the road I'll run at full speed. Because that makes sense. Oh also if we do get in a fight don't worry! I'll run ahead and try feebly to help you and then when they die I'll RUN BACKWARD to where I was before so that I can slowly walk to freedom again."

The Player: "None of that seems to make any sense at all. How were you captured in the first place?"

Idiot: "They were devious and left a trail of candy into a cardboard box."

    The Player: "Sigh...."
