They just couldn't make it a good christmas with some beta invites, could they?
Even Chua have families to get home to for the holidays, and shopping to do. Then bodies to clean up after the shopping.
("Chua not bloodthirsty; over-commercialized holiday shopping frenzy bloodthirsty. Chua merely efficient!")
So I'm confused. I've been doing what I can to increase my chances of getting an invite, including filling out their survey on Reddit, but I don't get the part about possibly having to sign up again on the NC Soft website vs. the original sign up form on the Wildstar website. Do we need to do this or not? Confused.
You do not have to as the old beta signup pool was imported, but doing so if you want to be certain your entry is current does not hurt either.
Oh, hmmm. Ok, I guess I just see things in black and white. Like, either you have to or not, and if you don't have to and that's 100% certain you don't have to, then why would you? lol
But I get what you are saying, maybe it's more like something to just make people who are paranoid feel better.
the thing is that people do not get is the current amount of people in beta compared to how many people that are signed up.
you have to think of it as a lottery and what your chances are.
yes so there are people who have been waiting for this since 2011 but the fact is your in a lottery system, it doesn't matter if you are first or last it is who gets picked.
say that there is around 40k people now in beta but the fact of it there is 100's of thousands of people waiting that means that you have to be luckier then those others and get an invite.
True. Although I guess they are saying there is a couple ways to increase your chances, like filling out their Wildstar survey on Reddit, but other than that, not much I don't believe.
well filling out their survey shows how many people are still active while waiting for wildstar.
some places actually takes you off the invite list if you are inactive after a certain amount of time, i.e. no survey or not logging in for a certain amount of time.
Oh yeah true. Well, in our case, there's not much to log into. I mean, I'm sure logging into WSC doesn't count. But if WS had a forum I could access at work, I'd be there. This is the only forum that isn't blocked by my work internet filter. Normally all game, social network, shareware, and of course porn sites are blocked. Somehow this one slipped through the cracks.
I did fill out the survey, so we shall see.
I'm sure the people in charge are on holiday break. Cut 'em some slack. Don't let it ruin your holiday.
Besides, even though getting into beta sounds like some great exciting chance to play the game before anyone else, we have to remember that the purpose of beta is to make sure everything works smoothly for the people who play it after release. It's not all just fun and games. Plus, there will be more bugs and errors than you're probably used to in a finished, polished game. You might not find it comfortable to play.
If I could play WS, I would jump at it and still have fun even with the bugs. Also, I actually think testing and submitting errors is fun in itself. I certainly don't see it as a drag. But yeah, I mean you're not there to just have a perfect gaming experience, that's for sure.
I already gave up on getting in the beta, I'll just focus on the Open Beta and see for myself.
I hate lottery systems, while its true for majority of the part the people that have been very involved in this from the start they simply received a key without a lottery. Its only fair though im not complaining there
And speaking of OB, wouldn't that be starting by February at least? I mean, I would think they would want to release WS sometime in April to compete with the TESO launch (and WoD may be launching around then as well) and if that's true, it seems like they would at least want a couple months of an OB soooo... I don't know, I kind of have the feeling we'll be seeing an OB not too long from now.
If any video could bring back the memories of waiting for Beta Access, i think this video helps describe it.
Simply put, to those waiting for a Beta-Key. We're all wishing with ya.
Open Betas serve a number of purposes, not the least of which is marketing (considering it's nigh impossible to maintain and enforce a NDA in Open Beta). I wouldn't expect an Open Beta until Carbine is really, really ready for it. Most anticipated MMO of 2014, don't forget.
Furthermore, several months of Open Beta is a financial mistake. You'd want one week, maybe two - tops. Give people a taste, but no more than that. Months gives players time to experience all of it for free and then not buy the product when it comes out. NCSoft will not permit that.
We also don't have an actual, public release date. That doesn't mean there isn't an internal date at Carbine, but until we have a public release date, a Spring 2014 release is not for certain either. Speculation that Open Beta would have to start soon is unfortunately invalid until release dates are announced.
Consequently, what this all comes down to can be summed up thusly:
1) Closed Beta will continue to be on-going, which means metered, controlled invitation waves as Carbine finds them useful (or necessary) to development of the project.
2) Open Beta will precede the actual release when it benefits marketing, the game is more or less done, and all that's left are performance tweaks, tuning and metrics.
P.S. You wouldn't want to send out a beta invite wave before Christmas if you intended for your employees to be able to take a break. If you have a stable environment and player base, you don't introduce new variables into it if there aren't sufficient devs and QA around to fix or study anything that might break.
Well, nuff said.
I hope I haven't given offense. My intention was merely to provide another perspective, but I suspect I came off as patronizing. I apologize if so.
I hope they continue with the closed beta for awhile longer to really get as much dev time on the game as possible and then give us plenty of time to test openly before actual release
No, in fact you really gave a logical reply that makes sense. I wish every poster made as much sense as you.
Thank you for the compliment.
In regards to beta, if I were asked to predict when the next wave of Closed Beta invitations will go out (or perhaps another stress test), it will be a few days before Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.
