They're really calling themselves the "Exiles"?

Wouldn't something a little more official, or atleast something that denotes an actual, organized union be better in-universe? Something like "The Free Space Resurgence" or "Galactic Resistance" if that's their hat? Cheesy, I know, I'm also not sure I'm using the word "Resurgence" right.

I think "Exiles" is more of a nickname they gave themselves. It stuck.

Plus, the union was not formed through diplomacy and handshaking, it formed through battle against a mutual enemy. Probably for the first time no race really thought they would stick around each other for too long... but in the end they found out they are stronger together. The alliance worked. But even then no one really saw the need to make it official.

Granoks are not the type to care too much about words, it seems. Aurins don't seem too much on bureaucracy either. And humans? I don't think they would push their allies too much. If they don't care, why should the aloof human ragtag force care?

I agree. We need an official name to show our resistance against tyranny and oppression!

    I vote for "Browncoats."

Well for starters, I'm not sure working with a whole society who willingly parades themselves as criminals is high on anyone's to do list. I mean, would you honestly sign a paper that's got the "kicked off planet, probably you won't see again." written on top?

But really it's more of the official thing as any group needs to rely on a... "brand name" so to speak. Granoks had the Granok Free Companies as mercs, and the Aurins have a queen, meaning they have a hierarchy, so they must understand the need for formality.

    Exile doesn't mean criminal.
To be exiled means to be forced from ones home for whatever reason. Which they all pretty much have been.

You are reading the meaning wrong.

One day the exiles won't be called That because they ll have found their way back home or made a new one.
    Till then , it fits.

Well usually that reason is "committing a grave sin", or as punishment or some iteration thereof. Technically being exiled is the Dim-onion's punishment for them. But what I was trying to say is that having the word "Exile" plastered on them carries the meaning of being hunted by the Dominion for life.

But that's not the point. It's just that usually the "La Resistance" in fiction has atleast some kind of official name, they're not just "The Rebellion" or "The guys who won't submit." That's all I'm interested in.

Nah , maybe its just the romantic in me, but the Exiles in sci fi conjures up images of a group of ships travelling through space together looking for a place to call home. Very firefly esque in my mind. ( or even battlestar galactica or a touch farscape - heck even voyager or the quarians).

The name resonates with me :p

There is a historical precedent for groups taking the derisive names of their opponents/oppressors and using that to rally behind.

    Vox Populi? ;)

I always thought it was a name people outside of the Exiles gave them. I'm sure some of them tried to get a better more official sounding name but getting everyone together was a bit of a hassle with all the Dominion lasers shooting at them. Gotta shoot back first before talking. :p
