Yep.... I'm not saying get rid of gear check. I agree that in a DF it's necessary.

Mostly I'm referring to people as individual players. I remember watching LFG and people saying "Must have gear score of <insert random # here>"

I never had that problem, I had a guild to run with, but it got to the point where people were to dependent on gear score as a determining factor as to who they would group with.
Now that I say it like that though it is off topic isn't it.

A better gear estimate would be good. Or requirements of having done the dungeon already, or having done the dungeon(s) before in the progression line, or having unlocked the dungeon by completing a key quest chain, that requires both a simple degree of skill and gear or maybe even rewards with intro level gear, so the gear is ok too.

    Two crazy thoughts.

    How about scaling?

Say the dungeon finder only cares if you did the last lot of dungeons in the progression to enter this one. You queue up because there is no gear check. Why no gear check? Well technically there is, each class or spec has a set minimum stat line for the dungeon, it looks at your stats not your gear and any that fall below the minimum is raised upto it. But that only happens when you use the dungeon finder.

How about Stat Points as quest/dungeon/raid rewards?

Gear is cosmetic and for certain stats. Damage for weapons, Damage Mitigation for Armour.
Every time you level up you gain x points into your Stats and certain quests, the last dungeon boss and any raid boss, award special one-use trinkets that you can either sell or use to gain some more stat points.

So at level 25 you can sign up for a level 30 dungeon and get extra stats to be able to have a chance on surviving in there. With all respect, but that sounds broken.

This would force people into doing those things. Personally it doesn't matter for me, I'll do them anyway, hehe. But for a lot of other players this will be unacceptable. Wildstar already stated they want to give you choices in what you want and can do in the game.

Obviously there would be limitations to qualify if you can queue for the dungeon, level based or progression based...but not -GEAR- based.

As to the other idea, yeah... D3 went from Point buy stats to set progression based on level for a reason.

I was discussing this with a friend of mine recently and he said something that bears repeating. When dungeon finder started in WoW people would queue up and try to clear whatever dungeon that popped in the fastest time possible. If you wiped a couple of times, you would lose a tank, or a healer or a DPS because they could easily find another group at the click of a button. There was no real dedication to finishing that dungeon if a few mishaps occurred early.

Personally, I think a dungeon finder encourages that sort of behavior. Sure... if you get a good group going, you can zip through the content and everything is relatively simple and stress free, but if you get a semi-bad group you just leave and requeue. I think this kills community because every dungeon becomes a "did the first boss get killed in 10 minutes? No? I'm done with this <REDACTED>!" Your tank has left your dungeon, you have been requeued. The intermittent attempts really get on my nerves.

hehe, if the bad part of the group was the tank, then I am totally fine with that ;-)

My wife and I call it the death march.... But it seems that a DF tool is almost required with mmo's today.
